About The Owner of C & J Roofing

James Verdier started this business in 1993 under the name of James Verdier Roofing, and went on to change the name to C & J Roofing in 1994.

Before he started our company, Jimmy was born in 1968, the middle child, with an older sister and a younger brother. He was raised primarily right here in Chambersburg, PA. A curious kid, Jimmy was eager to work, and started helping on a farm when he was 8, learning the value of working with his hands. This can-do attitude evolved into a self-starting drive, and as a teenager he picked up various summer jobs, looking for the right fit. When he stumbled into roofing, it stuck!

Jimmy went on to roofing full-time, and realized his potential. When he started the company in 1993, Jimmy had only a small pickup truck and a willingness to work hard. For the first 5 years it was just himself, with a few helpers, but with his earnings from each roof, he bought more equipment, and his company started to grow. Despite falling and breaking his wrist in 1995, he kept the business running, and by 2000 he began winning large commercial roofing contracts, and received approval as a Johns Mannville installer. In 2005 he spent the Fall making trips to Mississippi to service roofs damaged after Katrina. In 2006 he broke his leg in 6 places, but Jimmy doesn’t quit.

Had C&J Roofing replace my ~22 year old roof after a recommendation from a family friend. Had several companies come out, and even though C&J wasn’t the lowest cost we decided to go with them for shingle, skylight, and gutter/downspout replacements. I worked with Mark to get our color picked and other details settled. There were some hiccups, but nothing worth really remembering. Overall we have been really happy with the roof. It’s been about 2.5 months and I am still waiting on the warranty information – I’ll hold out final judgement until I get that and update this, but I am not worried that anything will go wrong at this time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends and others – the crew was awesome, respectful, and did a really good job cleaning up. The equipment they used to remove the shingles kept the yard quite clean, and they were all friendly of our two dogs. I haven’t found anything that was damaged during the work, including even flowers etc. I plan to keep the review updated – a roof isn’t a one or two month thing, its a two or more decade thing. My wife and I are still feeling good about our selection though.
